The Lubombo Health Research Unit (LHRU) is a research organisation based in the Lubombo Region of the Kingdom of Eswatini. It is a collaboration between Bradford Institute for Health Research, Eswatini Ministry of Health, Lubombo Regional Health Office and Good Shepherd Hospital, Siteki.
We support the design, delivery and application of innovative research focused on making healthcare in Lubombo more effective and more accessible to the local population, including isolated rural communities.
Our activities are supported by links with academic partners in the UK and South Africa. We work closely with regional and national stakeholders in Eswatini and welcome collaboration with other stakeholders who share our passion for improving healthcare in Lubombo.
Our team has been working in the Lubombo Region since 2005 and was previously supported by COMDIS-HSD (a UK-based research group). Recent examples of work include the decentralisation of diabetes and hypertension care to community clinics and strengthening of mental health provision in HIV and TB services.
